🎓SFU 公告 2020-04-11

As the world responds to the impact of COVID-19, the English Language and Culture program at Simon Fraser University has, like many other universities, moved instruction to online-supported delivery.

Along with the rest of the university, the English Language and Culture Program is guided by direction from government and health authority sources.

Our decision to suspend face-to-face classes and move to remote delivery is based on the advice of health authority experts and was made with the health and well being of our students in mind.

We will continue to deliver online-supported learning for at least the next two terms (May/June and July/August).

Our courses will continue to be interactive and allow students to achieve the established learning objectives.

We are also looking at how we may issue transcripts and certificates, either electronically, or hard copy should circumstances allow.

Because we recognize the unique circumstances created by COVID-19, we have also reviewed our practices regarding refunds and deferrals.

We understand that there are students who must return to their home countries because of this crisis. Where possible, students may defer their registrations to a later semester without penalty.

Similarly, students who cannot travel to Canada for their registered semesters may also defer their registrations to a later semester.

In the event that the student’s personal and unique circumstance does not allow them to defer their registration, we will review the case to see if a refund can be issued.

We are also considering options to enable students to complete their studies remotely should they be unable to be present in Canada.

We are grateful for your understanding and cooperation during this difficult time, and thank you for your continued support.

🎓VCC 公告 2020-03-24

Dear Agents and Partners,

The Government of Canada has recently announced that international students who held a valid study permit, or had been approved for a study permit on March 18, are now permitted to enter Canada.

If you have students who are accepted to VCC’s Spring/Summer 2020 term:

NOT in Canada, WITH Study Permit Approval

  • Students must inform VCC of their travel plans as soon as possible. Note that Canada requires all international travellers to self-isolate for 14 days after entering Canada.
  • If VCC does not receive students’ travel plan by March 31st, students’ seats are no longer guaranteed for Spring/Summer 2020 and will be automatically deferred to the next available intake.

NOT in Canada, WITHOUT Study Permit Approval

  • If students’ proof of Study Permit approval has not been submitted to VCC, students’ seats are no longer guaranteed for Spring/Summer 2020.
  • Students may request to defer or cancel.

In Canada, WITH a valid Study Permit

  • Students will be expected to begin their studies as planned.

All Spring/Summer 2020 accepted students will receive emails from VCC today to inform them of the same message.

If you have students already in Canada with a valid study permit, but have not applied to a college/university yet:

  • Please encourage students to apply to VCC’s Spring/Summer 2020 term.
  • Available programs include: Cosmetology Diploma, Post-Degree Diplomas (Business Management Diploma, Canadian Business Management), and other diploma programs. More programs will accept students. Check VCC’s Availability Status page for updates.

🏫University of Victoria English Language Centre

Dear Valued Partners,

Greetings from the English Language Centre, University of Victoria

I hope you are well and staying healthy and safe during these challenging times. I wanted to write and update you on the situation in Victoria Canada and to advise you on upcoming programs at the English Language Centre, University of Victoria.

In Canada, the number of cases of COVID-19 has increased and the government is taking strict measures to contain the spread of the virus. In Victoria, we have ended all face-to-face teaching at the university. People are being asked to work from home and self-isolate. All public establishments are closed, and all gatherings of more than 50 people have been cancelled. Moreover, the government has closed borders to international travellers and we are expecting flight cancelations soon. We are hopeful that with these measures the spread of the virus will decrease and that things will get back to normal soon.

Looking at the trajectory of other countries who seem to have had some success, we are hoping classes will start to resume sometime in the near future. For now, out of an abundance of caution, we are canceling Program 3 (May 25 – June 26).

We are asking partners who plan to come on or after June 29 to plan as usual to but not to financially commit to booking flights until closer to the program start dates. We will update you at the end of April and will hopefully have a clearer idea of what we can expect for the summer.

I would also like to inform you that ELC is in the process of developing on-line programs and we hope to start to make them available in the next few months. We will send you an update on on-line programs soon.

I hope you, your colleagues and families are all staying well and that the effects of this virus do not impact you too much. Please take good care of yourselves in these difficult times.

🏫ILSC 公告 2020-03-18

Dear Partners,

Yesterday the Government of Canada announced the closure of its borders to travellers who are not Canadian citizens or permanent residents. In light of this and our move to online classes for the next 2 weeks, we’d like to provide you with some additional information.

How is ILSC supporting students during this period of online delivery?

ILSC’s advisors and managers are available at our schools in Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal to support all students and to answer their questions.

How will the online classes work?

Students at both ILSC and Greystone College began their online classes today. This is a short-term solution for the delivery of classes, while we support your students and protect them, faculty and staff from the spread of COVD-19.  Greystone College Montreal students will be given a two week break from their studies and missed classes will be made up at a later date, however they can continue to access learning material via their online Moodle platform.

This week language classes are being offered 3 hours each day between 9am and 12pm.  As of March 23rd, classes will be offered 4 hours per day (20 hours per week). Through application of the Zoom platform ILSC students are taught by our experienced teachers and can expect the same high levels of professionalism to which you and they are accustomed.

Greystone College classes are being delivered online via Moodle during the regular study schedule. The Moodle platform is familiar to all students and has been used by Greystone College for some time.

The ILSC academic and technology teams have worked intensively to bring our transformative learning experience quickly online for both ILSC and Greystone College students.

Students from outside Canada wishing to postpone or cancel

As a result of the current travel restrictions on international students from entering Canada, ILSC and Greystone College requires students scheduled to arrive over the next 30 days to postpone their studies to a later date.

Existing students who wish to cancel their studies

ILSC will follow our published cancelation and refund policies (outlined in our Application forms https://agent.ilsc.com/public/search/?kw=2020materials ).  In addition and in light of the situation,  we will offer a non-cash voucher for unused study weeks not covered by the cash refund. This voucher is non-transferable and may be redeemed within the next 12 months for studies at any time.

Students who choose not to take the online lessons can opt to take a break and to extend their classes for two weeks free of charge at the end of their stay. Additional accommodation fees may apply.

As always, ILSC’s sales and registrations teams are available to assist you and your students with changes to study and travel plans.

ELS Canada Centers: Temporary Online Instruction and Policy Updates

March 17, 2020

Dear friends,

In the best interest of our students, employees and community, ELS has ceased face-to-face classes at our Canada locations and all students are transitioning to temporary online learning. We are concentrating 100% on supporting all current students who remain in Canada, have recently returned home, and future students who have decided to postpone their arrival date until the world’s travel bans are lifted.

ELS Canada Online Instruction Overview and Updated Policies

ELS has developed a very strong online delivery program and curriculum so students will be able to continue their studies in Canada or in their home countries if they follow the same time zones as their school of study. All materials and instruction are fully aligned with the ELS methodology and will still follow the same proficiency levels.

The first day of classes will be March 23 at 9:00am Toronto time and March 23 at 9:00am Vancouver time, respectively. ELS Canada is sending all students detailed instructions about transitioning to online learning.

Currently enrolled students are encouraged to take the new online classes that have been very successful in our US Centers. The delivery is very similar to a university class with significant one-to-one interaction with the same class instructors and center staff.

Nevertheless, we understand that a student’s situation may change and they may wish to modify their study plans. Therefore, we have updated our postponement policies, and we will direct students back to their agencies if they have questions about a refund or a cancelation.

·         Any student affected by the school closure can take advantage of our online program extension. Any student enrolled in Session 3 will be eligible to study online until the end of session 3 free of charge, if they were scheduled to leave ELS Canada earlier.

·         Our academic team will work to ensure the content that was missed in Week 2 will be made up in Weeks 3 and 4.

·         If a student has decided to leave Canada and does not wish to take advantage of ELS Canada’s online program starting March 23, they are eligible for a refund of unused homestay fees and a 100% credit of any unused tuition that can be used anytime in the next 12 months, with no penalty fees.

·         For students requesting a refund of any unused homestay, or in the case of tuition, our standard refund policies will apply. However we will direct all queries back to their agent for details. We will work closely with you to facilitate any additional questions or requests.

Upcoming Sessions: Online Learning for Current and Future Students

Session 4 will begin as planned on April 6, 2020. Classes will be delivered face to face online if we are still unable to deliver in-person classes.

Students will receive an invitation to our online placement test with instructions by email. After taking the online test, students will begin online classes on Tuesday, April 7 at 9:00am.

To support students, ELS Canada will strengthen our online programs every day to include more study resources, more teacher time, more support forums, and group channels who will study online, either from Canada or anywhere in the world.

However, should students not wish to join ELS Canada’s online program, they can postpone their arrival and receive 100% credit toward future studies with no penalties.

Should your students have any questions about the online learning platform and future studies, please reach out to our center staff: [email protected] or [email protected].

All of us at ELS are fully committed to helping each student through this difficult situation. Our goal is to minimize the disruption of the student’s studies and to provide positive interaction with familiar faces to help them feel connected during this time. We will provide communication updates on our website as necessary and will send out notifications when in-person classes are set to resume.

We greatly appreciate your continued support and understanding.

With kind regards,

John Becker

🏫Access

ACCESS IS SUSPENDING ALL CLASSES UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE
Online classes to begin Wednesday, March 18th
It is with regret that I am contacting you to announce the closure of classes at ACCESS English due to Covid-19. Tomorrow will be the last day we will allow students to attend our school.
As of Wednesday, March 18th we will be launching our online learning platform for students who are currently in Toronto.  I realize that this is less than ideal for students who wanted to come to Canada in order to practice their oral communication skills, learn about Canadian culture, and explore Toronto. However, at ACCESS we are trying to do our part to “flatten the curve” of the spread of
Covid-19.
Today Canada announced closure of its borders to international visitors, which means that all new students who have not yet departed for Canada, will need to delay their starting date.  If students are unable to attend, we are offering to provide them with their full program at a later date, with no additional charges. Students will have up to one year to complete their studies with us.
As this is a fluid situation that is constantly changing, we will continue to update you.
Thank you for your support at this difficult time.

Dear Partner,

We would like to update you on specific contingencies applicable to LAB Montréal and Vancouver. The health, safety and well-being of our students, teachers and staff continues to be our number one priority. As such, LAB Montréal has suspended classes from March 16 and LAB Vancouver will follow from March 18, 2020.

Online Live Course Offerings until March 27, 2020

To ensure students can continue their studies, both campuses will offer live virtual classes. As part of the LCI Education Network, a pioneer in e-learning, our language schools are well set-up to offer students a functional and efficient online learning environment.

  • As of March 17, LAB Montréal is offering students live virtual English and French classes. The campus is closed for classes.
  • As of March 18, LAB Vancouver is offering students live virtual English classes. The campus is closed for classes.

Our online course offerings will give students a unique opportunity to engage in real-time language learning with their regular teacher, their regular peers and in the level they tested in upon arrival. Students are offered the same number of hours and focus on the specific course content they selected for off-line classes. Further details are communicated to students directly at the campus. This option is available to students who haven’t started their course as well whether they are in- country or still abroad: as usual, they will take the online Versant placement test before arrival, have a virtual speaking test on their intake day and join online classes onwards.

Temporary Booking Policies Students opting out of online live courses are subject to the following:

  • 出發前取消cancelling before arrival: 免收額外費用no penalties
  • 改期至6/1前開課 postponing start date to start before June 1, 2020: 免收額外費用 no penalties
  • 改期至6/1後開課 postponing start date to start after June 1, 2020: 免收額外費用 + 免費加贈1週課程 no penalties and an extra free week of tuition
  • 要求先暫停課程,直到線上課程提供 requesting a study break until off-line classes are offered: 免收額外費用 no penalties (視簽證狀態要求而定subject to visa status requirements)
  • 終止課程 terminating a course booking: 未使用學費週數抵免至2020年以後的日期 credit of unused tuition weeks to a later date in 2020
  • 終止課程並退費 terminating a course booking with refund request: 依據加拿大政府退費標準(課程超過1/3不予退款)the normal refund calculation applies

Rest assured that we are doing everything possible to ensure that the transition is smooth and that classes can continue. We are convinced that this remote solution will be beneficial, not only to help prevent the spread of the virus, but also to preserve the health of students and staff, without affecting your studies too much. Thank you for your collaboration in an unprecedented and rapidly changing global situation.

🏫VGC 公告 2020-03-17

Dear Students and Partners:

VGC International College is watching the COVID-19 situation closely. As we are based in British Columbia, the situation is currently not as serious as it is in Ontario but is becoming more concerning daily. Public schools remain open and the provincial government has advised we do the same but take precautions as the threat still remains low.

Although the British Columbia government and health authorities state that it is still safe and there is no reason to close the school, we have taken the decision to take our classes online starting Monday, March 23.
At present we will be doing online classes for two weeks until April 6. However, it is important to note that this may change with the current situation and students and partners should subscribe to our Instagram or Facebook for any changes that may happen.

We will run courses as usual this week until Thursday, March 19. We will be closed on Friday for the transition online.

Furthermore, with the best interests of our students and staff in mind we have decided to cancel all activities and graduation ceremonies until further notice.

As the Canadian government will not be accepting any further flights to Canada, all future students have the choice of postponing, canceling or taking our online courses.

We should note that all of our online courses are government (PTIB) approved and follow the same high-standard we have with our face-to-face classes.

I want to thank our teachers and staff who have pulled together like a true team to get through this tough time.
I am particularly proud of our students whose resolve remains strong under strained circumstances and who continue to show calm during this time. Over the next few weeks our counsellors will be reaching out to you to check-in and making sure you are OK. We will continue to take care of our students as though they were our own family.

I am proud to belong to a resilient school culture that leads in these hard times.
Sincerely,

Dominic Walton

Hello,
I, Lane Clark President of CCEL and Canadian College, am writing to update everyone regarding the recent decisions at CCEL and Canadian College in response to the rapidly evolving COVID-19 situation. Currently, all Canadians have been
asked by the prime minister, Justin Trudeau, to stay at home to avoid the spread of the virus and flatten the curve to allow our healthcare system to stay ahead.
The management team and I took the necessary decision to close the campuses today, March 16th, and move to an online delivery program. Our instructors are dedicated to the task of delivering our program virtually and are eager to
begin classes tomorrow March 17th.
We would like to encourage agents to stay positive and help us support students and their family members. BC is a safe place for students to wait out this unfortunate situation.
If you require our assistance please do not hesitate to contact us. We are all still working regular hours from home and are available. There will be a time in the future when this is behind us, our relationship with you is our priority and you can
count us to support you through this unfortunate situation.
Options for starters in March and April (CCEL)
1. Start the program as scheduled and take the lessons online from your country
2. Postpone your start date to any Monday in the future. (No extra charge)
3. Cancel your booking. (Full refund)
Students who have postponed or cancelled the program are welcome to take our online lessons from their country.
Please contact our Marketing Team or email to [email protected] to discuss details.
Canadian College is planning to delay April intake from April 6 to April 20. The official announcement will be sent out shortly.
Thank you for your patience and I will continue to send updates as events unfold.
All the best,

Lane Clark

What does Global Village do if a student has flu-like symptoms?

If a person feels unwell, then the person is to isolate themselves from others and contact the medical authorities for direction. If in a homestay, the Host Family will assist in contacting the local health assistance number(s) or local clinic or hospital and follow their instructions to determine if the student needs to be tested, isolated in the home, or moved to a location of quarantine managed by the medical authorities.

The medical costs, including quarantine if needed, would need to be covered by the students’ medical insurance. It is important that students have appropriate and sufficient insurance coverage to cover them in the unlikely event of falling ill.

What happens if schools are closed by health authorities?

Classes will continue. GV schools are ready to move their classes from their buildings to GV Online Classrooms. Our Directors of Programs and Studies, along with GV Instructors, are launch-ready to reach out to our students on their mobile devices, laptops, or tablets, and coordinate classes on-line in real-time. Students will join their cyberspace class from the comfort of their accommodation or any suitable location to their liking. The schedule may be modified to accommodate the change in conditions.

Activities will continue. Our GV Events Coordinators will continue to be in communication with our students remotely to arrange to meet and coordinate activities and attend events permitted by the health authorities.

How will our homestays manage Covid-19?

In addition to the note above on how a student feeling ill is managed, Global Village host families are in open communication with our homestay teams while providing excellent hospitality to students. Hosts have been provided with resources about the virus and received tips on remaining culturally-sensitive as we navigate this situation together.

Homestay Coordinators maintain regular office hours within the school and provide 24-7 support through our emergency phone lines in the evenings and on weekends.

As always, the schools are open to changing homestay placement start dates around new travel arrangements or study plans and will negotiate homestay extension requests for students who choose to stay longer at GV.

Students may want to extend their studies rather than travel at this time. Is there a Special Extension Promotion available?

Yes. GV also recognize cases where students wish to avoid travel at this time and would like to extend their studies in Canada or Hawaii. To support these students, GV will offer a 10% discount on tuition fees. The Extension Promotion may be used in addition to other valid promotions and discounts for group classes only. To be eligible for this 10% tuition discount, current students at GV schools in Canada and Hawaii must process their extensions by March 31, 2020. If you have students in this situation, please do not hesitate to reach out to our Sales Reps and/or the school staff.

Does GV have a Flexible cancellation policy?

Yes. Due to the concern of travel restrictions, students may have concerns about their future study-travel plans. To avoid the premature cancellation of future-dated bookings, we encourage students to keep their tuition bookings in place until a final decision must be made.

For a traveler who is banned from departing their own country or from entering Canada or the USA, GV schools will treat this scenario the same as a visa rejection.

Click here to read GV Schools’ Cancellation Policy for Health Advisories, Travel Delays and Disruptions Related to Coronavirus.

What other best practices are GV schools following?

Student Support

Students and families may experience varied reactions to the emergence of a new virus such as this – anxiety, sleep disturbance or concentration issues. Students may become more anxious as they reflect on events in their home countries or other parts of the globe. To support the emotional well-being of GV students, school staff and instructors have been asked to listen, observe and note any needs as they arise.

Professional Cleaning & Hygiene
GV schools employ professionally trained and certified custodians. The regular cleaning schedule within our facilities addresses outbreak prevention and control measures. We also promote fact-based, health-related education within the schools via orientation, presentations and washroom posters, and we provide both soap and hand sanitizers. All members of the GV community (students and staff) are encouraged to stay home when sick.

Who can I contact if I have any questions?

We are happy to help! Please contact any of the schools directly if you have questions. Our priority is to ensure our students and staff are kept healthy, happy, and our service uninterrupted.

🏫ILAC 公告 2020-03-15

Dear Friends,

“The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.” – Franklin Roosevelt

There is a lot of anxiety around the world at the moment but ILAC continues to be positive during this time. We know that the COVID-19 virus will pass and life will soon get back to normal. However, it is through social contact that the virus spreads.

As a result, we are telling students to stay home for two weeks to prevent the spread of COVID-19, in accordance with the Canadian government advisory. All classes at ILAC Toronto and Vancouver will be held online from March 16th until March 30th. All additional activities, including orientations and trips, will be postponed until further notice.

Our teachers are ready and enthusiastic to teach and engage students online from the comfort of their homes. Administrative staff will be working flexible hours to take care of their children and families but will continue to support students and agents.

This decision is not based on fear but rather the responsibility and sensibility to protect the health and safety of all our students, teachers, homestays and staff. Instructions from the Public Health Agency of Canada state that anyone that comes to Canada will be asked to self-isolate for a period of 14 days.

Franklin Roosevelt said, “The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.”  During this time we will lead with strength and resilience as a company to protect our students and our community.

Staying calm and respectful and avoiding social interactions, practicing social distancing and following proper health precautions are the best ways to prevent the spread of the virus. As we all know, Canada is one of the safest places to be in the world, with an excellent health care system that is well-prepared and citizens who are behaving responsibly.

Today Canada’s Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, announced that Canada is closing its borders to all
foreign travellers to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

ILAC recommends that all students planning to come to Canada from overseas should postpone their
studies until after May 1, 2020.

Young and healthy students are safe here – let’s work together to keep it that way.

Thank you for your understanding and co-operation.

Sincerely,

Jonathan

February 28, 2020
Memo:
Regarding: IH Vancouver, Whistler and San Diego measures towards Covid 19 (novel Coronavirus)
Dear partners:
Over the past several weeks, global concern over Covid 19 (widely called “Coronavirus” in the world media) and its spread to several areas around the world has certainly captured the attention of society.

In the study abroad industry, we are well aware of the effects this spread creates many challenges for us
over the coming weeks and months.

The situation continues to evolve rapidly and we must always be ready to act based on changes to the situation. We will continue to monitor updates from the World Health Organization (WHO), the US Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the British Columbia Center for Disease Control (BCCDC) on how to treat the concern towards the virus for our students and staff. Some of the extra measures that we are imposing are as follows:
• Increased use of disinfectant in the school including daily wiping of surfaces in classrooms and door handles
• Hand sanitizer stations installed at entrances and in student lounge.
• Notices within the school on proper hygiene techniques and measures each individual can take to
limit the spread of the virus.
• Limiting student arrivals from infected areas. This started with students from Wuhan and its surrounding area of China. As the virus spreads to other regions with serious outbreaks, we will request students from these areas to either postpone or cancel their study program.
• Sending pre-arrival questionnaires to all students regarding possible exposure to the virus.
Students who may have been in close contact with the virus will be asked to remain in their home countries.
We encourage everyone to follow the practices outlined by the WHO and CDC regarding reducing the chance of both catching and spreading the Coronavirus:
• Avoid close contact with people who are clearly sick (coughing, sneezing, feverish)
• Avoid touching your own eyes, nose and mouth
• Stay home when you are feeling sick
• Clean and disinfect objects that are frequently touched.
• Wash your hands with soap and water often and for at least 20 seconds at a time. If soap and water are not readily available use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer

Change of dates – All students can postpone arrival date without penalties or extra cost. The new start date of the program must be no longer than 12 months from the original date.

For cancellations – if the arrival date of the student is under Government restrictions, no fees will be charged for cancellation, if there are no restrictions in place for the arrival date by the Government of Canada and students decide to proceed with cancellation, placement fee will be charged.

Due to the high volume of calls, we recommend students to contact us by email if they need assistance.
One of our Team members will contact students back ASAP.
HIGH SCHOOL

CANCELLATION BEFORE ARRIVAL
Students arriving SEP/2020:
All regular policies remain in place and we advise agents to wait for new updates before requesting any changes or cancellation. Applications for next semester are being processed regularly.
CURRENT STUDENTS
Ministry of Education BC just announced that all public schools (K-12) in BC will remain closed after Spring Break until further notice. We are still awaiting guidance from the School Boards about the next steps and policies, and will let you know as soon as we hear from them.

Please note that if students do return home or travel to other countries over Spring Break, due to new updates on the Ministry of Health and/or the Government of Canada, it will not then be possible to return to Canada or school in a timely manner.  Please also be aware that homestays may have concerns regarding a student who has traveled abroad returning to their homestay.  Students may not be able to quarantine (either self-quarantine or directed quarantine) in a homestay.  As a result, remaining in Canada may be the safest decision for both health and academic reasons.

Government of Canada is closing Borders effectively Tomorrow March 18th at 0:00am and International students that decided to leave Canada will not be allowed to return until further notice.

We will be updating all agents if something changes in the near future, please feel free to contact us if you have any questions.
